    Attachment to Happiness is the Path to Misery

    Oh, the painful irony. The more we chase happiness, the more unhappy we become. The more intent we become on the quest to find happiness, the more it eludes us.

    The only real and lasting happiness is an ever-present peace and contentment that can only be found, and felt, right where you are - at this very moment, in this very place. But it's the last place we ever look. We forget so easily, again and again - and we become outwardly focused, looking for the person, the place, and the thing that we hope will make us happy.

    When we do get a hold of someone, or something, or a new experience that excites our neurons, gives us an adrenaline rush or a dopamine high, we're hooked. Of course the experience fades. It can never be sustained... and we feel more miserable in the absence of our new drug - whatever the "drug" is. This is the machine that drives all consumerism. Drugs, food, high fashion, movies, gadgets, new technology, cars, toys of every conceivable kind... always a temporary rush. Never, ever the true Happiness.

    The looking "out there" is the problem. Invest your time and attention in looking within, feeling your feelings, expanding your sense of "self" to become larger than your feelings, and choosing to let go of anything and everything you are holding onto.

    We have two basic choices:

    Contraction and tension, and effort, and seeking, and running, and holding onto what we have for fear of losing it and losing happiness.....

    Or, Expansion and trust, flowing without effort, looking within, being still, and Letting GO of everything that we are holding onto out of fear or habit.

    The more you let go of everything there is to let go of, the more you realize that the only thing left is your real and authentic, unchanging Self - the source of never-ending peace, compassion, and love.

    Two of the best ways of learning to live in the Here and Now - and realize a more joyful state of inner peace, are Tapping, and Meditation.

    I usually prefer to tap first, to remove any negative emotion or runaway thoughts that are burdening the mind and body. Then once this is done - which might only require five minutes of tapping - meditation is much easier.

    It might otherwise take up most of your meditation time, just to muddle through the mental-emotional junk in the mind. By tapping first, it tends to be much easier to quickly go into a state of relaxation, inner concentration and self-awareness.

    With regular practice, these practices cannot fail to produce very positive results for your peace of mind, for your relationships and for your life.
