Violent Fantasies

by Kathy
(Los Angeles)

Hi Ben,

I was sexually molested from age 12-16 (never violently)have had a lot of EMDR therapy for nightmares and for difficulty enjoying sexual intimacy.

The nightmares are gone and I have a really good relationship, however, it seems like most of my fantasies are violent in nature and pertain to rape and being controlled by a much older man.

I'd like to stop thinking about such things..however, I'm having trouble coming up with substitute thoughts/fantasies.

I am open to any suggestions that you have! Thanks!

Ben's Answer:

Truly, the thing that I believe would benefit the most is EFT/Meridian Tapping. I have used EMDR before and although it can be quite effective, I find EFT more versatile and powerful. Your violent fantasies show that there is still some residual trauma - left as these mental impressions that continue to have a hold on the mind. Tapping could probably resolve that rather quickly. I would try tapping both on the original trauma as well as on the fantasy images and feelings themselves (seperately).

Best wishes,
Ben Schwarcz, MFT
