Bipolar Disorder is unique and different for each individual. There is really not an easy way to describe it to someone who has not experienced it or known someone with it, and even then, they may only be familiar with one particular manifestation of bipolar symptoms.

I prefer to view "bipolar disorder" as an energy imbalance. There are some people who fit the medical criteria for a Bipolar diagnosis, but choose not to change it. Not every person with Bipolar issues necessarily needs therapy, medication or treatment. For some, it may feel like a gift, and for some it is a burden. For some it drives them to extremes of madness and even suicide; while for others it is the winning edge that allow them to be wildly creative, visionary and ultra-productive. Anyone who insists that it should only be viewed as a medical illness to be treated, must also deny the contributions of countless visionaries, authors, musicians, artists, composers, activists, inventors and others who have shaped human history.

It is my hope that the bipolar advice on this forum offers insights into struggles, challenges and victories that those with bipolar disorder experience, and provides hope, practical information and tools to empower people to live a full and glorious life. Whether you choose traditional medical treatment, alternative treatment, both, or neither, you are ultimately responsible for your own life and how you choose to live it.

Just be safe, and please respect the well being of both yourself, and those around you.
The experience of Mania has many things in common with "Spiritual Emergence" or Spiritual awakening. They are not necessarily the same, but have many common features. Often those who come back from a manic episode and are able to find meaning and value in the experience and integrate it into their life, do so by recognizing the spiritual or symbolic aspects of their manic episode.
