Re-Writing Your Personal History with EFT/Meridian Tapping

I love time-travel movies, because of the concept of changing the present, by changing the past. The hero goes back in time, makes one little change and then comes back and finds that everything is different then it was.

One of the most wonderous things about EFT/Meridian Tapping, is that, like many other Energy Psychology Techniques, it so elegantly, quickly and painlessly goes right to those old memories, childhood traumas, or early life-impressions that we've carried with us for years - and changes them.

To me, this is just the same as time-travel. Those frozen moments in time - those pivotal moments in our lives, life-changing moments that go on living within us day after day, can literally be dissolved into insignificance. Imagine living your life as if their was no past. Every thing would appear new, and fresh, beautiful and alive. You would take nothing for granted, nor would you make assumptions about things. You would have no negative expectations, because expectations are always based on past experiences. You would still have access to your memories - especially the positive ones, but those memories would come in the form of intrusive or disturbing thoughts or fears.

This is exactly what EFT/Meridian Tapping can do for you. Our negative habits, fears, inhibitions, pessimistic attitudes, and self-limiting beliefs are all based on past negative experiences. Even the memories that are deeply burried and forgotten - our ealiest memories of life - all continue to stronlgy influence our feelings, beliefs, expectations and perceptions. Each time another traumatic memory is neutralized, we become a little lighter and a little more free to be who we really are, and to experience life without the negative filter over our eyes.

At long last, my eBook is nearly done - Tapping Into Joy: Meridian Tapping and Mindfulness for Depression.

Meridian Tapping is not complicated to learn. The mechanics of the technique are very simple. Even my 7 year old daughter uses it. Nothing works 100% of the time for every person -- but I've personally had about a 95% success rate in helping my own clients with depression, by using Meridian Tapping and Mindfulness for them as the main therapeutic technique in our sessions. Using this method greatly shortens the length of treatment needed, and in most cases helps avoid the need for medication. The great thing about Meridian Tapping is that it is so versatile - it can be used effectively for anxiety, insomnia, fear, trauma - all of the "side issues" that coexist with depression and contribute to it.

Tapping Into Joy - Meridian Tapping and Mindfulness for Depression. This book is unique in it's scope, and is the only book of it's kind, that focuses completely on the subject of depression, and how to heal with Meridian Tapping/EFT and Mindfulness.

Depression is not the same for everyone. The issues underlying it can be complex and unique to each person. This 18 Chapter book covers some of the most common areas of difficulty that lead to a state of depression: Trauma, Abuse, Codependency, Fear, Indecisiveness, Repressed Anger, Shame, and more. The book gives practical instruction on using Meridian Tapping for your own healing. Even if you've never tried Tapping before, you'll be a master tapper by the time you're done. You'll be on your way, from the very first pages of the book.

Includes a bonus Audio version of the book – read by yours truly...

And also a full 62 minute Guided Mindfulness Meditation audio to download immediately.

    Chapter 10

    Self-Esteem and Self-Love: Tapping for Low Self-Esteem

Self-Love is the highest medicine. It is not self-centered, egotistical or narcissistic – unless you are attached to some image of yourself, and mistake that image for your True Self.

We constantly hear about “self-esteem,” and how important it is to have “high self-esteem”. What does this mean? It is seldom questioned, or discussed on any deep level, but rather taken for granted that you must have high self-esteem in order to be a happy and well-adjusted human being.

This is only partly correct. The most fully self-realized state is to have “no-self esteem.”

That is, the lowest state is low-self-esteem (disliking yourself, unable to accept yourself, self-critical, ashamed, guilty, etc); the next is to learn to love and accept yourself (your apparent self, that is). This is “high self-esteem,” and is associated with confidence, flexibility, the ability to be kind to yourself, forgive yourself when you make mistakes, tell yourself positive things (positive self-talk) and so on. If personal growth continues, then eventually, you come to the edge of your personal reality and realize that all of your positive thoughts about yourself, are just that – thoughts. And the “self” that you have positive thoughts about, is simply a mental image, a concept – a thought also! So the “You” that you identified with, the seemingly solid, consistent self that continues to exist minute to minute, day to day, year after year – is simply a self-image that's loosely maintained and renewed continually based on fragments of memory and ideas that you hold about who you are. The deepest and truest happiness and peace does not come from this sort of self-esteem. For the ultimate states of Happiness – you have to relinquish the illusion of a self. That is what we might call – for lack of better term -- “No-Self.” There is no “self” to esteem at that point! This is Consciousness itself. Pure Awareness. The “I Am” state of Being.

From the Transpersonal perspective of human development, you first learn to have a healthy ego, and then you learn to let go of your ego. But the ego is such a sticky trickster, addicted to keeping us limited, separate, isolated and bound. You must always be vigilant. It is so very easy to tell yourself that you are not attached to your ego – but the very thought of being unattached is none other than ego is disguise!

    Tapping for Self-Esteem

While tapping the karate chop point on the side of the hand, repeat:

“Even though I don't like myself, I choose to accept myself with all my faults.”

“Even though I feel worthless and I feel like a failure, I accept my feelings.”

“Even though I'm sick of myself, and can't even look at myself in the mirror – I choose to accept these feelings.”

    {Now remember - “accept these feelings” does not mean accepting that you will have these feelings for the rest of your life. It means “I accept my experience in this MOMENT..... so that change can happen.}

Now, Tapping the 8 points 5-10 times each (say one phrase at each point):

    • I don't like myself
    • I'm sick of myself
    • I feel worthless
    • I'm no good
    • I feel like a failure
    • I don't know who I really am
    • I can't stand myself.
    • I can't accept myself as I am

You can continue to do more rounds – especially if you start feeling some emotion as you tap – whether positive, or negative emotion – any change is significant.

And end with at least one positive round of taps:

    • I choose to let go of my ideas of who I am
    • I choose to be myself
    • I accept all my feelings
    • I am not my feelings
    • I am not my thoughts
    • I am not this body
    • I am not this image of myself
    • I don't have to define myself

    and more....

    • I choose to be free of my thoughts
    • I choose to be my true self
    • I am open to new possibilities
    • I accept this moment as it is
    • I choose to see myself with new eyes
    • There is no one else exactly like me in the world
    • My mind has deceived me.
    • I choose to trust my intuition.

Take a slow, deep breath from the belly.... and sit in silence for a few minutes, just being still... and feel your own inner energy...

Energy Psychology and Meridian Tapping (EFT)

"This may be the biggest breakthrough in Medicine and Psychology in the last century."

Dr. Dawson Church - Author of Genie in your Genes

Variously called "Energy Tapping," "Meridian Tapping Technique," and Emotional Freedom Techniques® or “EFT” - tapping is an amazing Energy Psychology technique that can be easily learned and self-applied for an enormous array of problems. It is excellent for depression, as well as virtually any emotional disturbance, phobia, fear, traumatic memory, negative thought, and even for many physical problems (including some chronic problems that may have been unsuccessfully treated for years using all sort of conventional and alternative methods).

By tapping on these electrochemical activation points, the nervous system is balanced, and the emotional center of the brain (the amygdala) ceases it's reactivity to the disturbing negative thought, image, memory, or whatever the case may be. Studies now show that tapping quickly reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol...

    EFT and Energy-Coaching by Phone

Energy Tapping (Meridian Tapping), also commonly called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) can be done both face to face with a coach or therapist, as well as by phone. Once you learn the 8 major points to tap on your body, you can follow the coach's verbal cues and get wonderful results. In fact, I find that working by phone can minimize distractions and facilitate a deeper connection. Working with a therapist or coach can help you to define your core issues that need work, and help you find just the right words to describe the issue as you tap - an essential element for getting the best results.

Now, with Skype audio or web cam - you can even have a "face-to-face" session, just as you would if you came to my office, (and without long-distance charges).

Yogic Breathing Techniques to Supercharge and Balance You

Pranayama – literally “life-force control” – are powerful techniques for shifting your consciousness, purifying mind and body, and raising your energy. Pranayama is a core part of several types of Yoga.

    Try this:

    Ujjai Breath

This Pranayam will relieve stress and anxiety, bring clarity and calmness and balance to the mind, and reduce fatigue.

Ujjai is a simple breathing technique that is very commonly practiced during yogic meditation. I tell people to practice by doing their best Darth Vader imitation. It's like a whisper in the throat, produced by a slight constriction in the glotis (throat) as you inhale AND exhale. It's like a breathy sort of windy sound. You can hear it inside your own head, but it's barely audible to anyone else. Practicing first with the mouth open will help you to get the sound right. It's just like a whisper - say "HAAAAAAA" on the exhale and on the inhale just reverse the breath but make the same sound.

If you want to add another part to this, curl the tongue back against the roof of the mouth and keep it there while you do the Ujjai breath (this is called "Kechari mudra") and further steadies and calms the mind.

This breath can be used anytime you are stressed and need to calm down and focus, and is also ideal during meditation.

{If any Pranayama exercises cause you to feel faint, perspire excessively, or feel nauseated afterwards, discontinue and seek the guidance of a yoga teacher. If you are diagnosed (or suspect) Bipolar Disorder, avoid intensive and prologued practice of pranayama, and proceed with mindfulness and moderation, or with a teacher’s guidance. If you feel your energy rising too much, or your mind becomes too active, stop immediately and seek consultation. Forceful abdominal breathing should also not be done if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, hernia or gastric ulcers, without expert guidance.} Learn Pranayama techniques - Kapalabhati, Nadi Shodhana, Surya Bheda and more

    Don't Give Up!

Every life challenge is an opportunity to awaken. There is no situation that is hopeless. Something positive, healing and transformative is possible in all circumstances, even when we can't recognize it at the time. Sometimes we forge ourselves out of the fire of suffering and loss, and it isn't until the end that we realize what a beautiful work of art has emerged within. The glory of waking up can't be experienced if you don't first accept that you are asleep.

May we all find peace. May we all know joy. May we all be liberated from fear, and released from illusions. May we all return to the Truth of our inner Light.
